Welcome to Thorbardin Ranch

Thorbardin Ranch is a large Wyoming Land and Cattle Company with operations in Sheridan and Albany Counties.  In recent years, Thorbardin Ranch was North America's largest highland cattle breeder with award winning cattle at the National Western Stock Show.  Currently, we are phasing out our Highland Cattle inventory and concentrating on our Angus Composite cattle.

Thorbardin Ranch is rapidly becoming a leading spot for high elevation evaluation of bulls and replacement heifers for serious cattle breeders.  Our well maintained pens and working facilities are at 7200 feet elevation which allows us to provide a superb environment to properly PAP test cattle.  With an indoor sale ring, we are also able to offer an ideal spot for breeders to market their animals as well to avoid the shipping and stressing the animals prior to the sale.

Thorbardin Ranch over the  years has concentrated on producing incredible farm raised beef.  Many of our bull sires have been genetically tested for both the marbling and tenderness genes.  During the various times of the year we offer free range veal, grass finished beef and of course corn fed beef.  Pre-orders and ranch pickup are required.

With a large land position in Laramie, we offer a tremendous hunting opportunity for antelope to smaller game such as waterfowl.  We also have unique opportunities for daily coyote hunts and prairie dog shooting.

High Altitude Sickness, Mountain Disease or Pulmonary Edema and Brisket Disease are common used to describe cattle that lack sufficient heart and lung capacity to be profitable to the cattleman at higher elevations (5,000 ft or more).

There is a reason why the US Olympic Team trains in Colorado Springs at high elevation to increase performance.  The big question do you want your cattle to be athletes or couch potatoes?

PAP Test your cattle at our Laramie Facility at an altitude of 7200 feet.

Thorbardin Ranch Real Estate for Sale

As a large ranch company, Thorbardin Ranch over the years acquired real estate for ranching and farming purposes that at times no longer fits within the company's needs.

The Ranch has Solider Hill Ranch, a property that is ideal for a small hobby ranch or horse breeder that is currently available just minutes from Historic Downtown in Sheridan, Wyoming.  Sheridan is considered the top western town in the country.

Thorbardin also has 35-acre lots on a well maintained country road outside Laramie, Wyoming.  These lots come complete with a shared water well and power, making them ready for immediate construction.

Thorbardin Ranch will provide easy financing on all its properties with 15% down payment, 7% annual interest rate and a 25 year amortization with a 3-year balloon.

High Altitude Cattle Testing

As any serious cattle rancher who owns cattle in the Rocky Mountains knows not all genetics are suitable for high elevation.  With its excellent handling facilities and pens, Thorbardin Ranch offers a unique environment to manage and test bulls and replacement heifers at high elevation.

If you are running cattle on a consistent basis at or above 6,000 fett elevation, it is critical to use PAP tested bulls to ensure the most efficient gain along with the eliminating brisket disease for improved calf weights while decreasing mortality rates.

Cattle Genetics for Sale

Thorbardin Ranch is phasing out all of its Highland Cattle genetics.  This fall the Ranch will have a large selection of Highland cows bred to top performing bulls, purebred weaned highland calves and Highland yearlings.  The highland yearlings will be available at the end of September when they come off summer grazing on the mountain pasture.

Thorbardin Ranch also has a large selection of Highland semen and embryos for those breeders who are looking for some of the top genetics in the country.

Highland bulls are well known for their calving ease and are ideal to be used on Angus and other breeds of heifers.  Purebred Angus will knock off the horns and eliminate most of the long coat.  Stop in and see for yourself.
