Voted as the Best Western Town in the country, Sheridan is also one of Wyoming’s most historic towns. Sheridan’s Main Street District has a stunning 30 buildings already on the National Register of Historic Places including the world famous Historic Sheridan Inn which Buffalo Bill used extensively for his acts. All this is at the base of the Big Horn Mountains providing one of the most unique and spectacular backgrounds to live in.
Sheridan’s Main Street offers some of Wyoming’s best specialty shops to spend the day browsing from unique western art galleries, to one of the oldest Wyoming saloons, the infamous Mint Bar and to sporting goods that provide adults with their favorite toys to enjoy the Big Horn Mountains. And for horse lovers, Sheridan’ has the ultimate roping and tack store in the country situated in the middle of Main Street, King’s Ropes
Sheridan is full of many unique museums from the Don King Museum to the newly renovated Sheridan County Historical Society Museum . In addition Sheridan is home to many parks that are scattered about the community from downtown to those scattered in the countryside. The most popular is Kendrick Park, home to many summer events from concerts to the annual duck race.
For those individuals who aspire to fresh and nationally recognized theater, music and other entertainment, the famous WYO Theater features near weekly events. And for families that love western entertainment Sheridan is unsurpassed in it’s summers hosting both the Buffalo Bill Days which is four fun filled days including a Grand Ball at the Sheridan Inn to the other large summer event, the annual Sheridan WYO Rodeo.
The Big Horn Mountains and the Big Horn National Forest offer special outdoor fun on a year round basis. Summer time offers special hikes through miles of trails along with near perfect fly fishing. The changing of the seasons to fall offer some of Wyoming’s best hunting not only for mule deer but trophy elk. Winter season offers both cross country skiing but also snowmobiling on its many miles of trails. The Big Horn Mountains gather folks from all across the mid west to the huge outdoor recreational area.
Sheridan is Wyoming’s only true golfing destination. Within 30 miles, Sheridan boasts four courses that most communities would envy just having one of them. The Powder Horn Golf is one of the top 100 courses in the country with 27 pristine holes at the base of the Big Horn Mountains. Kendrick Golf Course is owned by the city of Sheridan with a full 18 challenging holes. Then there is the 9 hole Sheridan Country Club and last but not least is the four star Buffalo Golf Course a quick 30 miles south.
