2nd Chance Program

2nd Chance Program is a very special cattle sale that occurs every year. Thorbardin Ranch is an impatient breeder and we only expose our cows to bulls for 42-45 day (only 2-cycles) every summer. We have at the end of breeding season a number of fancy heifers and cows that are not pregnant. This is our 2nd Chance Program, a unique opportunity to pick up quality genetics at good values and to take advantage of our desire for wanting a short breeding period.

Open females are sold by age and are in good condition. Any bad hips or poor udders and even bad disposition are culled outright every year.

Coming 2-year olds are priced at $1400. These are fine very young females who have made it through numerous evaluation steps to be even considered breed stock.

Coming 3-year olds are priced at $1100. These are heiferettes who had a calf, but did not rebreed in the proper time. Many of these heiferettes have shown strong heats after breeding season.

Coming 4-8 year olds are priced at $900.These are mature cows that depending on the season missed finding their bull. In a 42-day breeding period, there are only 2 chances of heat to get pregnant.

Coming 9-year olds and older are priced at $750. These are older cows that are getting up there in age. Many of our replacement heifers over the years have come from these fine animals. These are ideal animals for small acreage owners and who like to spoil their cows with a touch of extra feed.

Pregnancy checking time frames depends on the year. Orders need to be placed early. It is important to remember, we never know the numbers or who will be open.
